Choosing a cycle tracker is personal. You might want somewhere to log your period and mood, or a broader set of tools for a particular stage of life. Where those records live matters, too.

lilCycles suits adults who want period, mood and strength-session logging without an account or cloud sync.[7] Clue is worth considering if you want its documented pregnancy, perimenopause or conception-focused features through Clue Plus.[2]

We make lilCycles. This is a comparison from lilMONSTER, not an independent review. It covers the supplied facts for lilCycles' live version 1.3.0 and Clue's documented iOS basic and Plus offerings.[7] Clue sources were rechecked from publisher sources on 19 October 2026, using official JSON versions where help-page HTML was blocked. We did not test the app hands-on. We are comparing documented features and data flows, not prediction accuracy or health outcomes.

lilCycles and Clue at a glance

The table separates everyday tracking, data handling and paid plans. A feature listed under Clue Plus should not be read as part of Clue's free tier.

What matterslilCyclesClue
AccountNo lilCycles account.[7]A Clue account is required.[1]
Data storageRecords stay on-device; no cloud sync.[7]Account history is backed up to EU servers; Clue describes encrypted storage.[1][3]
Tracking scopePeriod, mood and strength sessions; cycle predictions and wellness phase guidance.[7]Plus adds extra tracking categories, custom tags, deeper analysis and longer-range predictions.[2]
Apple HealthWrite-only HealthKit integration; never reads Health data.[7]Can read and/or write health information with permission.[3]
Backup approachUser-controlled encrypted backup/export archive.[7]Server-backed account history.[1]
Optional AISummaries on-device where available, or through your own local model server.[7]Privacy policy describes optional cloud-based AI insights and answers.[3]
Life-stage toolsThe verified scope here is cycle and wellness tracking.[7]Plus includes pregnancy, perimenopause and Clue Conceive features.[2]
Subscription structurePlus: weekly, monthly or yearly; yearly includes a seven-day free trial.[7]Free basic app; Plus has monthly and yearly subscriptions.[4]

These differences do not produce one universal winner. They help you decide which responsibilities you want to keep yourself and which services you want an app provider to handle.

Privacy: compare the actual data boundaries

What lilCycles keeps local

lilCycles has no account, ads, analytics SDK or tracking. Its App Store privacy label says "Data Not Collected". It does not provide cloud sync.[7]

That comes with a practical responsibility: plan how you will keep a backup. lilCycles provides an encrypted backup/export archive.[7] Device-local storage and having a separate backup are different things; decide where you want an exported archive to live.

Local storage also needs a precise explanation. You can choose to write information to Apple Health, export to a dedicated calendar, or send a previewed payload to your own local AI server.[7] Those are separate destinations, not lilCycles cloud sync.

"Delete all local data" clears lilCycles' local data, but does not delete samples already written to Apple Health.[7] Keep that distinction in mind when clearing records.

What Clue documents

Clue requires an account and explains that health history is backed up to EU servers.[1] Its policy describes encryption and service providers, so this is a server-backed model rather than a device-only one.[3]

Clue also describes privacy controls: research sharing and internal health analytics have separate opt-ins.[3] Its consent-based campaign-measurement disclosures say tracked health data is excluded from those marketing flows.[3] That is an important qualification, not a detail to leave out of a comparison.

Clue's US App Store label declares identifiers used for tracking.[6] Privacy labels are developer declarations, not independent network audits.[6] We have not tested either app's network traffic for this article, and these documents do not justify calling Clue unsafe.

Everyday logging or broader life-stage support?

lilCycles brings period, mood and strength-session records into its verified tracking scope. It also provides cycle predictions and phase guidance labelled "not medical advice".[7] If those are the things you want to record, they are useful criteria to start with.

Clue Plus has a broader documented life-stage feature set, including pregnancy, perimenopause and Conceive, alongside educational content, partner sharing and supported wearable integrations.[2] If one of those workflows is central to your choice, Clue deserves a closer look rather than being dismissed because it uses an account.[1][2]

There is also a meaningful integration difference. lilCycles never reads Apple Health data.[7] Clue's policy permits Apple Health reads and/or writes when authorised.[3]

Prefer lilCycles if avoiding Health reads is your requirement; investigate Clue's supported integrations if importing health information matters more to you.[2][3]

Optional AI: on your device or in the cloud

lilCycles works fully without AI. Optional summaries can use on-device Apple Intelligence where available, or your own local model server through Ollama, LM Studio or llama.cpp. A server request is redacted and previewed before sending.[7] Choosing that route means processing on your server, not entirely on your phone.

Clue's policy describes optional AI-powered insights and answers using AWS Bedrock and an Anthropic-provided model.[3] Clue says it controls the model environment and does not transfer data to Anthropic.[3] That is a vendor policy statement, not an independent audit. The reviewed research does not establish access for every region or subscription, so check availability before choosing it for AI.[3]

Neither this comparison nor an AI-generated summary is medical advice.

Subscriptions: compare the offer you actually see

Clue's basic app is free, with monthly and yearly Clue Plus options; its pricing help says prices depend on storefront region.[4] lilCycles Plus has weekly, monthly and yearly options, with a seven-day free trial on the yearly plan.[7]

We are not quoting amounts or declaring either app cheaper. Check your App Store offer, billing period and renewal terms before subscribing. Compare the features you need, too: a lower headline amount is not useful if the plan does not include your intended workflow.

Who should pick which?

Pick lilCycles if you are 18 or older, want its period, mood and strength logging, and prefer no app account, no analytics SDK and no cloud sync.[7] Be comfortable managing an exported backup yourself.

Pick Clue if its documented life-stage tools, partner sharing or wearable integrations are priorities.[2] Its server-backed history may also suit you better if account-based backup is something you actively want.[1]

There is no need to switch just to tick a feature box. Start with the job you need the app to do.

FAQ

Can I use lilCycles or Clue without an account?

lilCycles requires no app account.[7] Clue requires an account and documents server-backed health history.[1] This compares app accounts, not the Apple account used for App Store subscriptions.

Is lilCycles more private than Clue?

The verifiable distinction is architectural: lilCycles has no account, analytics SDK, tracking or cloud sync.[7] Clue documents server storage, service providers and consent settings.[1][3] Choose according to your preferred data boundaries; that is more useful than an unsupported overall privacy score.

Does Clue work offline?

Clue's Conceive help says you can view past tracked data in Analysis offline, but Cycle and Calendar predictions do not update until you reconnect.[5] This finding is specific to Conceive. The reviewed evidence does not establish the same behaviour for every Clue mode.[5]

Do I have to use AI with lilCycles?

No. lilCycles works fully without AI. Summaries are optional, with on-device processing where available or a connection to your own local model server.[7] You can leave those options unused.

Is lilCycles medical advice or contraception?

No. lilCycles is an 18+ wellness app, not contraception. Its phase guidance is labelled "not medical advice".[7] Do not use its predictions or summaries to diagnose a condition, choose treatment or prevent pregnancy. Bring health concerns to a qualified clinician.
